The R1200R is a bike I've noticed that comes up quite often on the boards so i figured the community might benefit from a thread to compare the two. Now I may not be able to go into the technical aspects of both bikes like I know some of you can, but hey that why we're all here ;)

Lets start off visually. Found these pictures on ADV rider comparing the seat heights.

visually the R1200R has a bigger tail and a higher rise in the gas tank.

Here are the two bikes laid over each other

wheel bases are nearly identical, but i believe part of the tank rise on the R1200R is due to the telelever front end. From this picture you can tell that the NineT is unmistakably a BMW R bike underneath.

From what I understand the biggest difference between the R NineT and the R1200R is the NineTs inverted front forks and a telelever swing-arm setup. It will be curious to see how the NineT handles vs the R1200R.

Underneath the two are unmistakably similar.

It looks to be more the angle of the photo, lens aimed down with a wide angle view so you get the picture looks top heavy...

But I do like the riding position on the NineT, should be able to alter it slightly as well. I'm looking for a bit more sportier position sportier, maybe new rearsets and a lower set of bars....

If you go to Motorrads website you can compare the two side by side

http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en...otorcycles.com/us/en/bike/model_overview.html

pick nineT first and then hit compare to R1200R, for some reason if you hit R12 and try to compare it to NineT its not listed...

well at least there's slightly more torque being made at a lower RPM, any improving from one model to the next is always good.

@cherry street, waiting for figures of ergonomics I meant. In another thread already mentioned that due to castor+steeringanglefigures 9T will be quicksilver compared to R1200R. Plus the 2gearratio is aming for quick reving:D

Deceiving angle, though she looks to be quite tall to me.

I Like how compact it "appears" although the low tank and dark colours all add to the illusion

Was actually thinking of buying the R1200R while waiting for the T - but the anniversary model will be extra special and probably my last bike.

When I see the two pics whit the lady on the bikes, I'm amazed to see how compact the nineT is, but also how beautiful the nine-T is compared to the R1200R.
BMW made definitely a splendid bike. Thanks for that.

Also thanks for posting them.

An interesting post. I've pre traded my white R1200R for the NineT. My only concern so far is the seat to peg relationship as I'm tall too. On my R1200R I fitted the optional high seat and bar risers. Bar risers for the new bike will be no problem but I might have to resort to retrimming the stock seat for a more comfortable leg position. I'm not phased by the NineT looking smaller as I fell out of love with big bikes when I bought one of the first R1150 GSA's. A great bike for mile munching but cumbersome for use in tight technical riding situations especially with luggage. Up to now My R1200R was near perfect but I much prefer the classic style of the NineT. Otherwise I would have kept the old bike.

i have the hex head R12R and the Tlever really ruins that bike's handling. The front pops up under power and there's, little dive on the brakes. Most road tests say Tlever fronts lack feel. I'd add they make for a choppy ride. I had GSs for years and the longer travel makes the ride better. I've changed the dampers to Ohlins and tuned springing and damping to perfection, but I still don't like the ride. Even the so-so Sachs on the 90 will be a huge improvement.

I'll find out on Thursday when I sit on the bike for the first time at the NEC! I'll post back then. Fingers crossed! I hope I'm not disappointed.

Thx
comparing her 5'9" to my 6'1" it will be a close call:(

@Scooter Paul : keep us posted

It all depends how you were created Tracteur what's your devide:confused:
Are you long in the leg or long in the body ;),if it's leg then your legs will be up the tank ,but if you have a long torso and short legs then you'll catch more flies :D
I'm 5'-11" with an inside leg of 33" and for me the 9Ts how I like it ,but yes minute and no armchair compared to my 2012 GSTB :D :D

it is not often a good thing to be 5'6" tall with a 27.5 inch inseam but it sure will be to ride this bike. Of course, I have no problem on my normally-suspended 2014 GS either.

I cannot wait to swing a leg over the R nineT... it's going to be amazing

Let's say I'm within spec:rolleyes: 6'-1" and 33" so body angle will result in a little more flycatching:eek:

Very interesting link as seen on the forum cycle-ergo.com
